The jaw. The English term jaw is the translation of the Latin maxilla. This raises an ambiguity because in English maxilla is no more the jaw, it is the bone of the upper jaw. A similar problem is present in Spanish were jaw is translated to mandíbula. From the FMA, the jaw is a cluster of organs, mainly the teeth and their support. The jaw must be contrasted to the bones of the jaw, namely the maxilla and the mandible. |
